How do I choose the right style of waterproof boots?

The starting point is knowing what terrain you're going to be walking on and the length of walks you're likely to be doing. The style of women’s or men’s waterproof boots that will be best for day trips or walking your dog won't be appropriate for long hikes in challenging environments such as hills with stony paths. Once you've worked out what you'll be using your boots for, you can look at the features of each pair of boots to pick the best ones for you.

Do I need walking boots or shoes?

Again, this will depend on where you're intending to walk. Walking boots are best for longer distance walks on uneven ground as they provide ankle support and protection on this terrain where it can be easy to slip and twist your ankle. Waterproof shoes are ideal for shorter walks on more even ground as they provide more mobility and flexibility.

How long will walking boots stay waterproof?

The durability of the boots will depend on factors like how often they're worn, the type of weather they're worn in and how well they're looked after. You're likely to get a couple of years of wear from boots that don't have much aftercare. If you look after your boots by cleaning and reproofing them 3 or 4 times a year, they're likely to last a lot longer.
