FAQs about safety boots
Why do I need safety boots?
Safety boots are a form of personal protection equipment (PPE) and are required to be worn in industries where there is a risk of injury in the working environment. Safety and security boots keep your feet and ankles safe from things like sharp objects on the ground on a building site, minimising the risk of slipping in wet or icy conditions or falling on uneven and unstable ground. They also provide comfort and support for your feet, helping to prevent muscle strain for those on their feet all day.
How do I choose the best safety boots for my workplace?
The type of safety boots you require will depend on the nature of your work and the environment. If you're working on a construction site where there's a risk of things falling onto your feet, you will need work boots with features such as steel toe caps. You'll also need soles that will help to prevent you from slipping in harsh weather conditions such as heavy rain or ice.
What do safety boot ratings and codes mean?
All safety footwear in the UK must comply with the relevant legislation (EN ISO 20345:2022) and the rating and code system provides an easy way for you to identify the type of work boots you require to give you the level of protection you need. So, for example, if you need toe protection, look for boots with an SB safety code which signifies the boots have been tested with 200J impact and 15KN compression force. SBP signifies footwear that also has a metal penetration-resistant outsole. Whereas S3 safety boots have a range of features and provide all-around protection.
