With the Spring Easter break on the horizon within the next week, now is the perfect time to schedule some ‘self care’ into your break from work or school and spend time in the great British outdoors soaking up the fresh air. We all know that walking is good for us, it is a gentle form of exercise that we can do on a daily basis whether it be walking your children to school, walking your dog or going out for a long hike – but did you also know the great benefits that walking has on our mental health? It is stated that physically active people have up to a 30% reduced risk of becoming depressed and for those who do experience depression, staying active can help the recovery process. Walking can improve your viewpoint and the way you feel about yourself, improve your self-esteem, mood and your quality of sleep, and is proven to reduce the risk of stress, anxiety and fatigue. In elderly people walking can also benefit the memory, attention span and improve their process of speed, reducing the risk of cognitive decline and dementia.
Now it is Spring the English countryside is getting a lot more colourful, flowers are blooming and the nights are getting longer – now is the perfect time to dust off your walking boots, pack your favourite refreshments and head out to explore what the great outdoors has to offer. We have put together a little guide on trails that the UK has to offer for beautiful Spring walks to enjoy either peacefully alone or with a group of family or friends.
