Grisport, one of Italys leading producers of trekking & safety footwear, this week revealed plans to make its Italian factory the greenest in Europe with a massive 8 million investment in sustainable energy.

On Monday 25th June 2007 plans were unveiled to the Italian Energy Minister that will make the Grisport factory and their boots the greenest footwear in the world. On an area of 30,000 square metres, 10,600 solar panels will be erected capable of producing 1.4 Megawatts of electricity. To give a comparison, this amount of power would service 540 family homes of 4 people. To produce 1.4 megawatts of energy using traditional coal/petrol/oil resources the damage to the environment would be 48 tonnes of toxic waste in 20 years. Solar power will produce clean energy. By switching to solar power, Grisport will have reduced by 1,000 tonnes per year the amount of Co2 entering the atmosphere; this is the equivalent to the yearly emissions produced by 320 cars. Work starts later this year & completion is expected by June 2008.
